Route 08 is a travel app for logging the places you've been, matching with travelers who've been to the same places, and sharing what you know. This page explains what we collect, who can see it, who helps us run the app, and how to delete it. The short version: we don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't track you across other apps.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, or the address Sign in with Apple gives us (which can be a private relay address).
Your profile. Display name, photo, bio, home country, and anything you add under "Find me elsewhere." If you turn on "I'm flight crew," the airline you name.
Your Passport. The places you log, with the season, the reason you went, the date of your visit if you add one, whether you've been more than once, and any rec or story you write. Your My 8. The airlines and airports you add.
Your Want to Go list. Places you hope to visit.
What you do with other people. Friend requests, matches, recs you love or save, asks you send and answers you give, whether you let travelers ask you, people you block, and anything you report.
App activity. Which Daily cards you've seen (so they don't repeat), the days that count toward your streak, the last time you opened the app, and, if you allow notifications, a device token so we can send them.

Your photos

"Find places in my photos" is optional and only runs when you start it. With your permission, Route 08 reads only where and when each photo was taken. It reads that on your phone. Your photos are never uploaded, and we never see them.

The app turns those locations into a list of places, and nothing is saved until you choose. For the places you add, we save the place itself (never a photo's exact location) and, if you keep it, the date of your first visit. We also remember when you last scanned and any places you said "not this one" to, so they aren't suggested again.

To name a spot we don't already know, the app may ask Apple's map service for the name of a nearby town. That sends Apple an approximate location, the same as searching for a place in any map.

Your location

"Log places as you travel" is optional and off until you turn it on. It uses your location to notice when you arrive somewhere new, or come back to a place you've logged, and sends you a notification. That check happens on your phone, and your location stays there. When you arrive somewhere new, the app tells our server which city you're in so it can show you that city's recs. We don't store it. Turn it off any time in the app's settings or in iOS Settings.

Who can see what

Everyone in Route 08 can see your display name, photo, bio, founding member number, and your place on the leaderboards. The community boards and place pages count your places, Want to Go, home country, flight crew airline and airports, but only ever show totals, like how many travelers have been to a city, never who.
Your recs can appear on place pages, in rec search, and in answers to asks. Travelers who aren't your friends see the rec, not your name.
Asks. When you ask about a place, it goes to travelers who have been there. They see "A traveler," not your name, unless you're friends. You can turn off being asked in the app's settings.
Matches see your name, photo, and how many places you share.
Friends (once you both accept) see your Passport, map, stats, flights, Want to Go list, and "Find me elsewhere."

You can block anyone. Blocking removes the match and hides you from each other.

Who helps us run Route 08

Supabase stores your account and data and handles sign-in. It runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States.
Apple provides Sign in with Apple, delivers notifications, and provides maps and place names.
Sentry receives crash and error reports so we can fix bugs: your device model, iOS and app version, and what the app was doing. We use these reports only to fix problems.
08 Left and Shopify. If you order a Runway Map print, the design made from your airports goes to 08 Left (our sister company), and your order, payment, and shipping details are handled by Shopify and 08 Left under their own privacy policies.
An email provider sends account emails, such as sign-in confirmations.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't show ads. We don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't use analytics tools that build a profile of you.

Your controls

You can edit or delete any place, rec, or profile detail in the app at any time. You can turn off photo access, location, and notifications in iOS Settings. You can permanently delete your account from Settings → Delete Account. That removes your profile, places, recs, matches, and stats. Crash reports are kept by Sentry for a limited time (up to 90 days) and then deleted.

Children

Route 08 is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EU and UK). We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under those ages.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we'll tell you in the app.
